Android 15 update will come later this year but the developer preview 2 version shows us the features that people can expect.

Android 15 QPR beta comes with new goodies for smartphone users, who can expect some major upgrades later this year. Google I/O 2024 has been confirmed for May 14, and that’s where we will hear more from the company about the next Android version, but most of us don’t need to wait that long to see what Android 15 promises, thanks to the QPR 2 developer version which is now available if you like to play around with half-baked and buggy Android flavours.

iPhones have got satellite communications tech for a few years now, and Google is ready to push its own tech with Android 15 this year. But what else can Android users expect in the form of new features with Android 15? Here’s a quick low-down of what has been discovered so far.

Android 15 Features Expected This Year

Audio Sharing

Android 15 developer version has already shown us glimpses of this feature, which basically means you can share one track with multiple headphones once you get a phone running on Android 15. How this works is that you can stream music via Bluetooth Low Energy by pairing them with another device that is compatible with Auracast.

Keep Find Device Feature Activated When Phone Is Turned Off

That’s right, Google is finally enabling the Find my device feature to work even if the phone/tablet is turned off. Android 15 is making this happen thanks to the new Powered Off Finding API that will allow the device to be connected to the Find my network at all times. Google will take help from Bluetooth beacons to intercept these offline devices, which will not only work on Android 15 but will need the hardware support as well. The Pixel 9 series and even the 8 models could get it first later this year.

Private Space For Apps

Google will have a default interface that acts as a private space for apps and even data that you categorize as confidential and don’t want people to find it easily on the phone. It is likely that Android 15 will offer a biometric lock to keep the apps and data secure in this space, you won’t need another app to do that anymore.

Satellite messages on Android

Android 15 could finally see Google bring satellite communications tech to Android users. We have already noticed signs of the tech coming to Android last year, but 2024 could be the year when Android gets fully integrated with the emergency-centric call and message network. We’ll hear more on this at the I/O 2024 in May, and most likely, the Pixel 9 series will debut the service.

These are just some of the features that are expected to form part of Android 15 this year but many more are expected to be added in the coming months.
